Software Download - Wisecom 3314EM4 or EM5 compatible modem information file

This page is divided into a number of sections detailing the following points:

PURPOSE

As you are probably well aware Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows NT only supply a limited set of Modem Information files. If your modem is not compatible with these then it is necessary to use one of the provided generic files which sadly can not fully utilise its capabilities. Consequently we have endeavoured to bring more modems into the fold with the release of this information file MDMGREY1.INF

Once installed connection speeds up to 33600 bps will be reported by the Dial Up Networking components of your operating system. Further, speaker volume control, error correction and data compression together with a choice of modulation types will all be available where supported.

INSTALLATION

First obtain the modem information file package and unzip it onto a suitable place on your hard drive. This will result in two new files being available - ReadMe.txt which reflects the information found on this page and the modem information file MdmGrey1.inf. To install the modem information file follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Control Panel. This can be achieved by clicking on the Start button, sliding off the Settings entry and selecting the Control Panel folder.
  2. Start the Modems applet by double clicking on the Modems icon.
  3. If you already have a modem installed on your system click on the Add button.
  4. Check the box disabling auto detection of your modem and click on the Next button.
  5. Select the Have Disk button and navigate to the folder containing your MDMGREY1.INF file.
  6. Ensure the Wisecom 3314EM4 or EM5 compatible model is selected and clink on the Next button.
  7. Decide on which port to install the new information file and click on the Next button.
  8. Click on the Finish button. Your new modem information file is installed.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Although designed to work with Wisecom 3314EM4 or EM5 compatible modems the MDMGREY1.INF file should work with many others brands based around the Rockwell chipset but please be aware that this information file does not support voice modems.

In most circumstances it should be necessary to modify the Unimodem ID string found in the [Greystoke] section of MDMGREY1.INF. The Unimodem ID of your modem may be found in the file MODEMDET.TXT located in the windows directory. Occasionally a modification to the initialisation string may be required which is found in the [MfgAddReg] section.
